What is Shockwave?
Low intensity focused shockwaves (Li-SWT) are actually acoustic pulses delivered to the target area via a hand-held device. Li-SWT promotes angio-genesis (development of new blood vessels) in the penis, thus allowing greater blood flow which helps to revitalise and strengthen an erection. This type of treatment has also been found effective for Peyronie’s disease and chronic prostatitis. Our Storz Shockwave systems provide the very latest technology for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Storz is a highly respected Swiss company and leaders in the field of Shockwave equipment for the treatment of ED and Peyronie’s disease.
What happens during treatment?
Shockwave therapy is carried out by one of our qualified and experienced Shockwave Consultants. Treatment is discrete, safe and painless and you can continue your daily activities as normal immediately after the session. Each session takes around 20 minutes and is carried out at our South Gyle practice in Edinburgh. In most cases, 6 sessions are required at weekly intervals to gain maximum effect, although many people experience some immediate benefit. Most patients speak to their GP to confirm the diagnosis prior to treatment. Some are referred by an Urologist. .
